Curry factory heats up in Khon Kaen

A fire broke out at a small factory producing curry paste in Muang district of this northeastern province yesterday morning. The fire damaged the property but caused no casualties, police said.

Pol Capt Samai Chaibuala, a Muang police investigator, said the fire broke out about 9am at the factory, a two-storey building on Prachasamran road in the Khon Kaen municipal area.

Factory manager Amornrat Srinongnuch said the fire started soon after workers on the ground floor heard crackling noises from an electrical plug and a circuit breaker nearby.

The fire quickly engulfed the ground floor and spread to the upper floor.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control in 30 minutes.

The fire caused damage to machines and raw materials for producing curry paste on the ground floor and burned down the upper wooden floor used as living quarters for workers. No monetary estimate of the damage was at hand. An investigation was under way to establish the cause of the fire.
