Currowan bushfire predicted to spread on Thursday

Burrill Lake and Kings Point residents have been warned of embers ahead of Thursday's severe fire predictions.

On Wednesday evening, SES volunteers were door-knocking homes, asking residents to be vigilant, watch for embers and keep up to date with emergency broadcasts or the Fires Near Me app.

Conditions will be dangerous due to high temperatures, strong and gusty winds and low humidity. The potential fire spread prediction map shows the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts.

Moruya SES has been requested to conduct door knock letterbox drops at Nowra on Friday and Saturday.

The Rural Fire Service is warning residents on both the northern side and southern side of the Currowan fire to be ready to implement their bushfire plan.

Waterbombing aircraft have been used to slow the northern spread of the fire in inaccessible areas of Morton National Park.

Woodburn Road, Wheelbarrow Road and areas to the west are asked to monitor conditions and know what they will do if threatened by fire.

An RFS spokesperson said multiple spot-overs occurred at government on the Kings Highway on Thursday morning.

The fire has spotted over to the southern side of the Kings Highway and residents are warned the fire has potential to deteriorate quickly due to Thursday's weather conditions.

The Kings Highway remains closed between Narranghi Road and Reid Street for safety reasons.

A fire has also started on the southern side of Braidwood Road and is pushing in an easterly direction.

Communities from Sassafras to Wandndian and Tomerong need to remain vigilant until the Tianjara fire is brought under control, RFS spokesman Brad Collins said.

Braidwood Road has been closed in both directions. Braidwood Road from HMAS Albatross Technology Park to the intersection remains open at this stage.

The RFS is preparing aircraft to survey the fire. There is a one-kilometre exclusion zone around the former Tianjara firing range, where firefighting crews cannot operate.

"We are not sure how this fire started, but we will be treating it as suspicious" Mr Collins said.

"There have been no lightning strikes in the area recently. It will be investigated, but at the moment the focus is on suppressing it."

The RFS has reminded the public to stay up to date on bush fires in your area by checking the NSW RFS website, listening to your local radio station, or by calling the NSW RFS Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737.

People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should activate their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows.
