Brendan Rodgers edges Ange Postecoglou as best Celtic boss, insists Scott Bain.
Former Celtic stopper Bain has weighed into the Brendan Rodgers v Ange Postecoglou debate and reckons the Irishman comes out on top.
Both managers delivered Treble success at Parkhead and left a major imprint on the club, with Rodgers lifting 11 trophies across two spells and Postecoglou winning five in just two years.
While Ange’s high-tempo football earned widespread praise, Bain believes Rodgers’ tactical edge sets him apart. Speaking on Open Goal, he said: “I hold Brendan above the rest. I know you guys love Ange and his style of football, but I just think Brendan in terms of tactical.
“I think Brendan would change and go away in Europe and change. Ange would go away in Europe and play the same way, and we’d get battered off Real Madrid.
“Anyone in Scotland and our sort of level would get battered at that level.”
Bain also recalled a striking early experience under Rodgers that cemented his view. He said: “I made my debut against Rangers and found out I was playing on the morning of the game.

“We went in to the room to do a team talk before leaving the hotel, had the line-up on the wall and said ‘what do we do if we concede early?’ and we said ‘we just keep playing’.
“He then said, ‘all right, what do we do if we score?’ and ‘what do we do if we get a man sent off?’ Literally every single thing he said happened in that game. I just thought this guy is an absolute genius.
“We went down to 10 men. We knew we’d go to a 4-3-2, we score again and win 3-2. From then on, I just thought he is a genius, and he helped me in terms of understanding the game a lot more.
"Ange is obviously brilliant as well, I’m not taking anything away from him.”
Now at Falkirk under John McGlynn, Bain also sees similarities between his current boss and Rodgers. He added: “You can see John has taken bits from Brendan from when he was at Celtic.
“What I like about the manager is that we want to play a certain way with flair and attacking football and playing it out of the back, but he’s no scared to go away to Motherwell and just kick it long because that’s what the game calls for.
“So I think in that sense, he’s really good. He’s definitely up there.”
