Current roster suggests Miami will be huge players in UDFA market

U.D.F.A.

Undrafted free agent. Your Miami Dolphins will have acquired a whole lot of them by this time next month. When the NFL Draft closes with the final pick of the actual draft order, free agency starts all over again.

You see, there are 254 draft picks in the draft and thousands of would-be drafted players. The scale of it can be overwhelming. And when that final pick is made, teams get on the phone and start recruiting those who didn’t get their name picked.

Just because a player goes undrafted doesn’t mean he doesn’t have potential. Sometimes the fall comes on account of medicals. Perhaps a player was in a deep position in this year’s draft. It’s a complicated affair.

Miami’s pitch to undrafted free agents will be pretty simple.

If you love football and want to compete for a chance to make a roster, Miami is the place for you. Great weather, no state income tax. And again, a chance to make a 53-man roster.

Sounds good, right? Expect Miami to bring in hoards of UDFAs. After all, their big push with draft picks is 2020 and yet the team currently has 58 players signed, which is tied for dead last in the league.

Teams enter training camp with 90 on the roster. There’s a whole lot of influx (32 players) coming and much of that figures to come in the way of “cheap”, young labor. And from there? May the best men with the jobs.
