Current Health hires US medtech veteran to head sales

Edinburgh-based tech firm Current Health has hired former Medtronic executive Sean Ginney as its vice president of sales.

Ohio-based Ginney will aims to drive sale on both sides of the Atlantic as Current expands in the US where it has a base in San Francisco.

Current's wearable device combines with a data platform to make it easier for medics to monitor patients without keeping them in hospital and gives earlier warnings if their condition deteriorates.

It has partnerships with 12 of the largest health systems in the US, including Mount Sinai and Banner Health, and several NHS trusts in the UK.

Ginney has more than 20 years of medtech experience including 15 in leadership roles at Medtronic, the world’s largest medical device company. He has since worked with medtech startups, helping them grow into leading disruptors.

He said: “Healthcare is moving toward value-based care and we’re creating a product that delivers that value throughout a patient’s entire continuum of care, keeping patients healthier in their own homes.

“I’m looking forward to capitalizing on my vast sales, strategic and leadership experience to implement innovative solutions for our customers and, ultimately, completely reinvent the way healthcare is delivered.”

It is the second major appointment in a week for Current, who last week named former Skyscanner executive Richard Lennox as its chief operating officer.

Christopher McCann, co-founder and CEO of Current Health, said: “Sean has a remarkable background in strategic sales and leadership in both Fortune 500 companies and disruptive startups, so we're thrilled to have him lead our sales growth efforts as we transform healthcare delivery worldwide.”
