High-class filly Magical should prove the star of the show today when the new-look Curragh opens its gates for the first time.
Only four will contest the featured Group 2 Coolmore Moorsbridge Stakes. But the field features three Group 1 winners in Magical, Flag Of Honour and Latrobe.
The trio filled the first three spots in the Group 3 Alleged Stakes in Naas last month, when there was no doubting Magical’s superiority as she cruised to a smooth, four and a half lengths win over last year’s Irish St Leger victor and stable-companion Flag Of Honour, with 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish derby winner Latrobe a similar distance in third.
Magical came good last autumn, winning the Qipco British Champion Fillies & Mares at Ascot before finishing a highly creditable second, beaten three-quarters of a length, to Enable in the Breeders Cup Turf.
With Ryan Moore again on board, Magical should prove too strong for her rivals here.
And Happen, runner-up to yesterday’s Guineas second Lady Kaya in a Guineas trial at Leopardstown, is probably the one to beat in the Coolmore Gleneagles Athasi Stakes.
Earlier, King Neptune, a War Front colt which impressed on his debut at Dundalk, is napped to follow-up in the listed First Flier 2-Y-0 Stakes.
I Am Superman, raised 22lb for recent handicap wins (both from high draws) at Leopardstown and Naas, steps into stakes company in the listed Coolmore Tetrarch Stakes.
This represents a much tougher task. But Michael O’Callaghan’s charge looks progressive and gets a tentative vote to complete the hat-trick.
And Eddie Harty’s Clifftop Dancer might reward each-way support in the 30-runner Curragh Where Champions Are Made Handicap over six furlongs.
