Curragh and Clonmel betting tips: Peter O'Hehir's selections for Friday's horse racing action

Dropping in class after a creditable effort in Group 2 company last time, The King should rule in the Tri Equestrian Silver Stakes at the Curragh this evening.

Trained by Jessica Harrington the Mastercraftsman colt has failed to win in eight starts.

But he made a hugely encouraging return to action last month in the group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes, over today’s course and distance, finishing third in a race brimming with group 1 performers.

Magical landed that prize, beating irish St Leger winner Flag of Honour second, ahead of the selection and last year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby victor Latrobe.

With no such stars to cope with on this occasion, The King should be very tough to beat.

In the other listed event on the card, the TRM Equine nutrition Ballyogan Stakes, British raider Dan’s Dream returns to the scene of a narrow defeat by Happen in the Athasi last month.

The day’s banker bet is chasing debutant Go Another one, trained by in-form John McConnell, in the Camida Beginners Chase in Clonmel.

A 143-rated hurdler, having won at Grade 3 and listed level, at Thurles and Perth respectively, in that sphere, he looks made for this game and is a confident choice.
