Feb. 15--"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," the profoundly moving Broadway show about an extraordinary British teenager, will play Chicago's Oriental Theatre for a three-week engagement in December, Broadway in Chicago announced Monday morning.
Based on the book by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens, "Curious Incident" has been one of the most successful non-musicals in recent Broadway history and is launching a national tour this year. The Chicago dates are Dec. 6-24.
Broadway in Chicago also said it has booked the touring production of the West End musical "The Bodyguard," an adaptation of the 1992 movie starring the late Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner and, in London, a vehicle for Heather Headley.
The tour, however, stars Deborah Cox, singing "I Will Always Love You." The show has not yet been seen on Broadway. It will play the Oriental from Jan. 31 to Feb. 12, 2017.
From March 7-19, the touring version of the enigmatic 2014 Broadway revival of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" will play the Oriental for two weeks. Penned by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask and previously seen in Chicago at American Theater Company (and at what is now the Laugh Factory), "Hedwig" was brought to Broadway on the back on Neil Patrick Harris, its enigmatic star. Darren Criss, Michael C. Hall and Mitchell himself also played the role on Broadway. Casting for the tour has yet to be announced.
These shows are being packaged with the previously announced "Hamilton" and "Aladdin" as a subscription season -- the demand for tickets to "Hamilton" is likely to propel this particular Broadway in Chicago season to record sales.
