Curie offensive tackle Kevo Wesley is heading to the Southeastern Conference.
Wesley, who had 29 offers, gave an oral commitment to Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Calling it a “dream situation,” Wesley wrote in a text message: “The opportunity to get a prestigious degree and play in the SEC under a great coaching staff was almost a no-brainer. ... Being in Nashville is a great experience that I felt I couldn’t pass up.”
Wesley, a 6-5, 265-pounder, is ranked No. 17 in the state in the Class of 2020 by 247sports.com and No. 23 in Illinois by Rivals.com.
He had offers from eight Big Ten schools: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.
Also among the Power Five schools who offered Wesley were Arizona, Iowa State and Kansas.
”The upside here is high, but he has a lot of physical and technical development ahead of him to play at that level,” Rivals Midwest recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt said in a text message.
”College coaches love players like that, though. Give them a prospect who possesses the unteachable trait, and they feel they can coach up the rest.”
