Cure Bowl to feature all-female national radio broadcast crew

ORLANDO, Fla. _ When fans tune in to listen to this year's Cure Bowl on the radio, they'll be taking part in history. For the first time, a Football Bowl Subdivision game will feature an all-female national radio broadcasting crew.

Jamie Seh, Dani Welniak and Melanie Newman will form the broadcasting team that will call the game between Liberty and Georgia Southern at Exploria Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 21. Kickoff is set for 2:30 with the national broadcast to air on Sirius XM Radio and the TuneIn Radio app.

"The FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl has been working to take this concept to completion and team up with BowlDayRadio to bring together Jamie, Dani and Melanie for this historic broadcast" Cure Bowl executive director Alan Gooch said in a statement Thursday. "Jamie has been an ambassador for our game since its inception and was recognized as a Cure Bowl Community Service Soldier in 2017. Melanie provides a great perspective and has the first-hand experience covering the Liberty Flames this year, while Dani's experience speaks for itself as a sideline analyst for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network and a former captain of a professional football team."

Seh, who will do play-by-play of the game, is the sports director at WKMG-Channel 6 and previously served as the radio play-by-play voice for the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football league as well as serving as the radio voice for Syracuse women's basketball and men's lacrosse.

"I'm thankful for this opportunity to join this outstanding and accomplished radio crew with Dani and Melanie and set a path for future female broadcasters," Seh said.

Newman, who is the color analyst for the game, worked as a sideline reporter for ESPN+ covering six Liberty football games as well as serving as a reporter for the ACC Network. She was also part of the first all-female radio broadcast for a professional baseball game.

"Being a part of this team just feels like the way to end 2019," Newman said. "After establishing the first all-female booth in baseball, it's such an unreal feeling to see it happen in football. Honestly, it's hard to believe it hasn't happened before, but I'm thrilled to be a part of it. Hopefully next year, serendipitous moments like this will be commonplace."

Welniak is the sports director for KCTV in Kansas City, where she worked as a sideline analyst/reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network. She'll take on a similar role for the Cure Bowl.

Added Welniak, "It's an exciting matchup and I'm thrilled to be calling it with such a unique and talented team. It's an honor to be a part of something so much bigger than myself."
