CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept points to new small electric SUV

CUPRA has unveiled details of its radical all-electric UrbanRebel Concept, which it aims to turn into a road-going small crossover production model in 2025.

The Spanish brand is renowned for sporty models, so felt the rebellious race-car inspired theme was a natural choice for the newcomer.

The front features a shark nose and new triangular signature in the headlamps, while the wrap-around window design creates the visual effect of a helmet and delivers the effect of a floating roof.

Side on, the car reveals athletic proportions, with diagonal sculpted surfaces. The rear boasts a large racing spoiler, a muscular design and strong horizontal accents.

The UrbanRebel Concept’s battery-powered motor delivers 250kW of continuous power and up to 320kW at its peak. That allows it to sprint from 0-62mph in a blistering 3.2 seconds.

CUPRA says the road version will mix astonishing design with supreme dynamics and will be based on the parent Volkswagen Group’s MEB short platform.

Boss Wayne Griffiths said: “The UrbanRebel Concept is a radical interpretation of the company’s urban electric car, due to be launched in 2025.

“This racing concept gives an idea of the design language of the future street-car and will inspire its creation.

“The urban electric car is a key strategic project not only for our company but also for the Volkswagen Group. It will make electromobility accessible to the masses.”
