Cummings: Nunes should be investigated for Trump revelations

WASHINGTON _ Rep. Elijah Cummings suggested on Thursday that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes should be investigated for revealing that President Donald Trump's campaign associates may have been caught up in a surveillance net.

Cummings, D-Md., the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Nunes, R-Calif., acted inappropriately when he revealed publicly Wednesday that he had reviewed intelligence reports that had "nothing to do with" the Trump campaign or Russia but did show intelligence agencies had collected information about the campaign.

"What he did was basically to go to the president who's being investigated by the FBI and others and by the Intelligence Committee to give them information," Cummings said in an interview Thursday on CNN. "Basically what he has done is he has scuttled and put a cloud over his own investigation and he has become the subject, basically, he should be of an investigation. It's a real problem."

Cummings said members of the Intelligence Committee are "privy to information that most members of Congress never see."

"You expect them to be confidential," Cummings said.

Nunes said Wednesday the report "bothers me and should bother the president and his team."
