Cumbria journalists vote to strike

Journalists at the North West Evening Mail have voted overwhelming for strike action in a dispute over job cuts, staffing levels and working hours.

In a National Union of Journalists ballot, 26 people voted for strike action, with one against. And union members have agreed to stand together in support of colleagues facing the sack.

NUJ regional organiser Chris Morley said: "The chapel is determined to fight deteriorating working conditions."

The Barrow-in-Furness paper, owned by the CN Group, is undergoing a reorganisation as part of the company's attempt to cut costs.
