Cumbernauld Colts boss James Orr admits Scottish Cup tie is a real tonic

Cumbernauld Colts boss James Orr admits their Scottish Cup tie against Huntly gives them a welcome break from the Lowland League.

Colts go into the clash at Christie Park on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Berwick which leaves them 13th in the table. In a tough week for the Broadwood club, Colts follow up their cup adventure by hosting high-flying East Kilbride in the league on Wednesday, and Orr just wants a return to form for his side.

He said: “The Scottish Cup is a welcome relief from the league at the moment and it lets the boys concentrate all week on that, on playing against a team we know have a good record in the Scottish Cup.

“It will be good to get a welcome break and it’s only one game, so best team wins. I think it will be a pretty even game. There is no doubt the park will be heavy, they will know how to play it, and I don’t think there will be a lot of football played.

“I think it will be sleeves rolled up, work your hardest, fight for the 90 minutes and try to score a goal more than Huntly.”

Orr added:”After that it’s East Kilbride. They’re an excellent team with a great management team and we know most of their players, everybody’s heard of them, and we will give it our best shot.

“If you sit back then I’m sure you have a chance of getting hurt, so we’ll just give the best account of ourselves and try to get something from it.”

Orr was disappointed with the defeat against Berwick, but said they fought hard in the second half.

He said: “We matched them, showed that we can compete at this level, and I don’t think our position is true to the sort of team we are.”
