Cumbernauld brand shock Blantyre Vics and Darvel joint title win "irrelevant"

Cumbernauld United chairman George Watson reckons the West Region Championship win for co-champions Blantyre Victoria and Darvel is "irrelevant".

The Scottish Junior FA last night announced that the Vics and the Ayrshire league leaders would both be awarded the title as both sides had picked up 84 per cent of points before the league was called off.

However, the Guy's Meadow club were six points behind Darvel in second and a point ahead of the Vics having played more games.

Watson said his side "have no complaints on the decision" and it didn't matter with all clubs moving to the new tier six West of Scotland League next term.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "The odds were stacked against us actually winning the league and with the new WoSL set up it's irrelevant.

"Don’t get me wrong it would have been nice to win the last Junior Championship, and it was a tough one to call with Darvel andBlantyre.

"To be honest I think the West Region committee got this decision spot on."
