Listen up, you true crime fiends!!! Beloved psychological thriller Mindhunter might be returning to Netflix!!! However, there’s a cheeky little twist to its long-awaited return.
For folks who are not in the know about Mindhunter, it is a Netflix original crime series set in the 1970s that follows two FBI agents as they interview a bunch of serial killers to understand the whole psychological side of why they’ve done the dark things they’ve done. It’s spooky, it’s gritty, and it makes you (or maybe just me) paranoid of everyone.
While the show garnered a cult following from 2017 to 2020, Netflix brutally pulled the plug on the series after its second season, with a spokesperson at the time stating it could come back “maybe in five years”.
Well… it looks like that five years is up, BUDDY. It’s Mindhunter time!!!

Is Mindhunter coming back?
Speaking to CBR, Holt McCallany — who played Bill Tench in the series — revealed that he had a meeting with David Fincher, the director of Mindhunter, who claimed that there could be a “chance” the show would return. However, not as a series.
“I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance,” McCallany said.

The Iron Claw actor added that he was extremely privileged to have starred in the cult-fave series and that he would do everything he could to revive Mindhunter.
“I felt very fortunate and privileged to have gotten to do that show at all. I would love it if it were to return,” he continued.
“I think, like I said, you know, he gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align.”
Why did Netflix cancel Mindhunter?
Ahead of the show’s cancellation, fans began to speculate that the series was over after the main cast were released from their contracts.
Months later, it was officially confirmed that the plug on the beloved series, with Fincher admitting that money and viewership factored into its demise.
“Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was a very expensive show. We talked about, ‘Finish Mank and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic – dollars have to equal eyeballs,” Fincher said at the time.

With Netflix recently delivering in the true crime department — think Ryan Murphy‘s Menendez Brothers series and the drama it brought — it feels like this is the perfect time for Mindhunter to make a return.
However, as three two-hour movies???? Yes, I’ll be creating a Sheldon Cooper-like toilet schedule for that one.
