Cullercoats Coffee Co. opens new French bistro-style venue in Whitley Bay

A business that has become a popular favourite at the coast is bringing a taste of France to Whitley Bay in the form of a stylish new café.

Cullercoats Coffee Co. is following on from the success of its existing Cullercoats and Tynemouth venues with its latest venture, which opened on Countess Avenue on Monday 26 August. While the new Whitley Bay venue has some elements that locals will recognise from its sister sites, most notably coffee from the award-winning Tynemouth Coffee Co. served up in signature yellow cups, it also offers something new.

The new Cullercoats Coffee Co. café has been realised in the style of a French bistro, complete with a tasty new menu offering. Starting off the day with a hearty breakfast menu, visitors can tuck into classics like a full English or sausage stottie - with bread from fellow Whitley Bay business Pure Knead - or try something a little different like omelette Arnold Bennett with smoked haddock.

Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, from yoghurt and granola bowls to avocado on sourdough toast. And the lunchtime menu is where the French inspiration kicks in, serving up small plates like French onion soup and steak frites to boards of British and continental meats and cheeses.

The new Whitley Bay venue is also a great spot to grab drinks with friends on an evening, serving alcohol from midday Tuesday through to Sunday. There are draught beers, ciders, wines, prosecco and champagnes carefully picked to compliment the food offering, as well as a French-style cocktails menu.

The business, which was taken over in October last year and is now run by Paul Stonebanks, his wife Joanne, their 19-year-old son Cole and Lauren Peters, has big plans for the coast. The ultimate aim is to have five Cullercoats Coffee Co. venues within five miles, with each one offering something unique.

With a coffee shop which they hope to covert to a bakery, a takeaway, and a bistro venue already under their belts, plans are in motion for two more sites in the future. The aim is to bring a second branch to Whitley Bay which will provide a deli-style offering, and a fifth new venue at North Shields Fish Quay.

Cullercoats Coffee Co. has recently welcomed Eddie Saint on board as a new chef, who was a contestant on last year’s MasterChef The Professionals and has worked at Riley’s Fish Shack and Jesmond Dene House. As the business continues to grow, they have pledged to donate 10% of their profits back into charities in the local community.

The Whitley Bay bistro is open from 7am every day, closing at 2pm on Mondays, 7pm Tuesday-Thursday and 10pm Friday-Sunday. Visitors can take advantage of a lunch deal, which offers two mains and two drinks for £24 from 3-5pm Tuesday-Thursday, or a cocktail offer of two for £10 every day from 3-5pm.
