Cuco Martina makes Everton return as Lewis Gibson and Beni Baningime also feature in victory

Cuco Martina made his Everton return for David Unsworth's under-23 side on Saturday.

The youngsters defeated Wigan Athletic's development team 3-1 at Christopher Park thanks to Antony Evans, an own goal and Fraser Hornby.

Unsworth was given the luxury of starting Lewis Gibson and Matthew Pennington at the heart of his defence after the pair featured in the first-team defeat to Mainz last weekend.

Martina and Kyle John made up the back four as Harry Tyrer, 17, was preferred to Nico Hansen in goal.

Nathangelo Markelo and Alex Denny played in midfield with Beni Baningime, Antony Evans and Dennis Adeniran also starting.

Ellis Simms led the line for Everton but it was substitute Hornby, who is interesting Blackpool , who bagged a goal.

Martina featured for Curacao in the the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer but was dumped out in the quarter-finals by the United States of America.

Everton are willing to listen to offers for his services after Feyenoord failed to make a permanent offer at the expiration of his loan spell last term.
