Former captain Roy Keane has said that anyone who believes Fred is good enough to play for Manchester United is living in "cuckoo land."
Keane launched a scathing attack on United and several players following Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
An own-goal from Eric Bailly after just seven minutes set City on their way before Bernardo Silva doubled his side's lead on the stroke of half-time.
United were no match for their cross-city rivals, with City barely needing to get out of first gear to get the job done and open up a six-point gap in the Premier League table.
After the game, Keane pinpointed how the overall makeup of United's squad has made life difficult for Solskjaer and highlighted Fred with a withering assessment.
Keane told Sky Sports : "I think Ole will be under more pressure than after the Liverpool game. The way they lost. It’s a derby game.
"Ole was shook up in that interview. It’s tough for a manager when you’ve got beat in a match and he’s getting asked hard questions but he’s stepped up and he always has and I’ll give him that.
"But if you’re a manager, this morning he spoke about the players being in a good mood in the hotel, whatever the hell they were doing.
"You’re going into a match looking at the bus and [Luke] Shaw, [Harry] Maguire, Fred are there and your job is depending on these guys? You’re in trouble.
"You've got international players.
"Anyone who tells me Fred is good enough for United - they’re in cuckoo land."
