Cubs trade setup man Andrew Chafin to A’s: reports

The Cubs look like they are beginning their moves ahead of the Friday deadline, reportedly trading left-hander Andrew Chafin to the A’s on Monday. The deal has not been finalized.

The Cubs acquired Chafin at the trade deadline last season from the Diamondbacks. Though he wasn’t with the Cubs for long, he quickly established himself as one of manager David Ross’ most trustworthy, high-leverage arms.

Chafin, who re-signed with the Cubs during the offseason, is in the midst of a career season and has been a force at the back of the bullpen with right-hander Ryan Tepera and closer Craig Kimbrel. The southpaw is 0-2 with a sparkling 2.06 ERA in 46 games this season.

Chafin would become the second player dealt by the Cubs during trade season, with several players still in play before the deadline. The team traded outfielder Joc Pederson to the Braves on July 15.
