April 16--The Cubs paid three times for the errors of their ways during a 6-1 loss to the Rockies on Friday at Wrigley Field. The team's four errors and lack of punch at the plate played a huge hand in ending their winning streak at five games.
At the plate: The Cubs managed just four hits, their second-lowest showing of the season and enough to match their error total.
On the mound: Kyle Hendricks (1-1) didn't do the Cubs in. He exited after giving up four runs, two of which were earned, seven hits, no walks and striking out five in six-plus innings.
In the field: An error charged to Hendricks, who didn't touch the ball, in the second should have been an E-official scorer. Kris Bryant, however, was charged with two legit miscues -- one throwing -- and almost made a third on a throw to first.
Key number: 7.11: Runs Cubs were averaging per game entering Friday, the best in the majors.
The quote: "'The Bus' was tough today." -- Cubs manager Joe Maddon on Rockies starter Chad Bettis, who allowed no runs on three hits with four strikeouts in six innings.
Up next: Vs. Rockies, 1:20 p.m. Saturday, CSN. RH Jake Arrieta (2-0) vs. RH Christian Bergman (0-1).
