Friday's recap: Cubs 6, Phillies 2

May 28--Cubs 6, Phillies 2

Jorge Soler, David Ross and Kris Bryant hit home runs to back Jon Lester and lift the Cubs to a 6-2 victory Friday against the Pirates at Wrigley Field. The game was delayed 56 minutes by rain in the seventh inning after Pedro Strop threw one pitch in relief of Lester and again for 37 minutes before the ninth inning began. Every Cubs starter save for Addison Russell and Lester, had at least one hit. The Cubs (32-14) have won three in a row after losing three in a row for the first time this season.

At the plate

Ben Zobrist had a double and a single and has reached base safely in 32 consecutive starts, the first Cub to do that since Starling Castro did it in 40 straight in 2011.

On the mound

Lester (5-3) left to applause after allowing one earned run, two walks, six hits and striking out seven.

In the field

The Cubs made two errors on one play in the third eventually led to a run after Dexter Fowler dropped Freddy Galvis' fly ball, only to watch the ball scoot between Javier Baez's legs at third base.

Key number

61. Years old Cubs radio announcer Pat Hughes turned Friday.

The quote

"I don't have a catcher's glove. Hopefully I don't need one." -- Bryant, who has played left field, third base and first base this season.

Up next
