Cubs pitcher Justin Grimm marries Naperville girlfriend

Feb. 03--Cubs relief pitcher Justin Grimm married his longtime girlfriend, Gina Nuccio, over the weekend.

Nuccio, from Naperville and a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School, met Grimm when they were both students at the University of Georgia. She was a gymnast there.

In an Instagram photo posted by his now-wife, the bride and groom are shown kissing as a sparkler's glowing swirl encircles them. With the post, she wrote: "Words can't express how thankful @jgrimm52 and I are of everyone who made our special day so special!!!! What an amazing day!! Poor Justin burnt his finger."

No word if the finger was on his throwing hand. But when contacted on his honeymoon and asked about the health of his finger, Grimm responded via text: "Finger is solid."

Grimm and the other Cubs pitchers are scheduled to report to spring training camp on Feb. 19.

The reception was at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse in Lombard. Among those in attendence were teammates Jason Hammel, James Russell, Kyle Hendricks and Neil Ramirez. Mike Olt, now of the White Sox, and Red Sox pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. were also there.

Grimm proposed last September on the roof of his Chicago apartment building.

"I just felt like it was that time to get on with my life," Grimm told the Bristol (Va.) Herald Courier. "She's a great girl and she's definitely someone I just want to spend my life with and share my life with. It was a pretty cool moment and it was pretty exciting."

On Tuesday, Gina posted another photo from the honeymoon, this one was of the two of them playing ... chess. "Totally kicked @jgrimm52 butt in Chess!" she wrote.

Last season, Grimm, a right-handed pitcher, appeared in 62 games for the Cubs -- third most on the team behind Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon -- compiling a 1.99 ERA. In January, Grimm, 27, signed a one year-deal with the team for $1.275 million.
