Cubs' Joe Maddon, Warriors' Steve Kerr share notes

SAN DIEGO _ It was Steve Kerr who made a point of seeing Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon prior to Tuesday night's game against the San Diego Padres, but Maddon came away impressed with Kerr's low-key demeanor.

"He's just a genuine human being," Maddon said of his first meeting with the Golden State Warriors coach and former Bulls guard.

Maddon, a New York Knicks fan, started to follow Kerr more closely after Kerr elected to coach the Warriors over the Knicks a few years ago.

Maddon is not the first high-profile professional leader Kerr has sought. Prior to the 2014-15 season, Kerr spent some time with Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, and the Warriors went on to win their first NBA title since 1975.

"It's great to see a guy have this kind of success be normal," Maddon said.

Maddon asked Kerr about the practice habits of NBA most valuable player Stephen Curry and drills designed to make difficult shots more routine in games.

Of course, Maddon and Kerr spoke about the importance of rest, and Kerr shared that Warriors have a "heavy" practice only once every two weeks. Maddon was curious to learn about how much time was devoted to pregame shootarounds.
