BRIEF: Tuesday's recap: Dodgers 7, Cubs 3

March 09--The Cubs allowed 13 hits as the Dodgers scored three times in the seventh inning to roll to a 7-3 victory at Sloan Park. Despite home runs from Kris Bryant and David Ross, the loss extended the Cubs' losing streak to five games.

At the plate

Javier Baez took some vicious cuts in striking out against Clayton Kershaw in the first, but he singled and scored the Cubs' first run in the third.

On the mound

Reliever Armando Rivero has been an enigma for the Cubs since signing out of Cuba before the 2013 season. Rivero, who throws in the mid-90 mph range, was tagged for three runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning in the seventh. Rivero allowed a two-run triple to Trayce Thompson.

In the field

Baez showed that he has the strongest infield arm in the organization as he threw from deep short to retire Yasiel Puig in the third.

Key number

1: Cubs hits with runners in scoring position.

The quote

"Even though it's spring training, you know (Kershaw) is over there." -- Kyle Hendricks.
