DENVER _ The Cubs placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day disabled list before Monday night's game against the Colorado Rockies. The move is retroactive to Saturday.
Heyward has a sprained finger on his right hand. The Cubs purchased the contract of reliever Dylan Floro from Triple-A Iowa.
Also on Monday, outfielder Matt Szczur, who was designated for assignment on Saturday, was traded to the San Diego Padres for minor-league right-handed pitcher Justin Hancock.
Hancock, 26, a ninth-round pick in the 2011 draft, was 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in 10 appearances at Double-A San Antonio. Hancock has spent a majority of his minor league career as a starting pitcher.
