April 19--Jon Lester seeks his first victory as a member of the Chicago Cubs Sunday at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs also seek to take two out of three in the series against the Padres, who send righthander Andrew Cashner to the mound.
Lester enters the game with an earned run average of 7.84 and an 0-1 record.
"I have a lot of faith in how he does things," manager Joe Maddon said of Lester before the game. "I think over these next two starts, you are going to see how good he actually is."
Rookie third baseman Kris Bryant recorded his first major league hit and RBI Saturday as he went 2-for-3 with three walks in the 7-6 win that took 11 innings.
Teammate Anthony Rizzo made sure Bryant's feat was memorable.
"Coming into the clubhouse (after the game) I saw like smoke and the lights were turned off," Bryant said Sunday. "I was like, what's going on in here?' It kind of caught me off guard, but it was super fun and Anthony came up to me and said: 'That was fun, wasn't it?' I said: 'Yeah, that's a whole lot of fun to see the locker room. I sure hope to be partying in the disco clubhouse a lot this year."
Before the game the Cubs announced that outfielder Matt Szczur has been optioned to Triple A Iowa. The Cubs selected the contract of righthanded pitcher Gonzalez Germen and moved pitcher Jacob Turner to the 60-day disabled list.
