CLEVELAND _ Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant did not start Wednesday night for the second consecutive game as he recovers from a beaning Sunday.
The decision to rest Bryant was made Tuesday night, but the Cubs couldn't recover in a 4-1 loss at Cleveland.
"(Bryant) is not bad," manager Joe Maddon said. "He's fine. It's just one of those things. He's been seeing a doctor. There's nothing awful coming from the doctor to me or to us. It's just a matter of him getting ready to play."
Bryant is scheduled to visit a doctor on Thursday when the Cubs return to Wrigley Field.
Francisco Lindor snapped a 1-1 tie with an opposite field home run off Jon Lester in the sixth, and Edwin Encarnacion followed with a two-out blast that scooted through an exit in the bleachers in left center.
The Cubs took a 1-0 lead when Anthony Rizzo hit a single with two out to score Ian Happ, but Brandon Guyer countered with a homer that struck the left field foul pole with two out in the bottom of the inning.
Albert Almora Jr. and Javier Baez collected consecutive singles in the third, but Rizzo struck out and Willson Contreras grounded to pitcher Trevor Bauer to end the inning.
Rizzo committed a throwing error in the eighth that allowed Lindor to score an insurance run and snap Rizzo's errorless streak at 150 games dating back to last season.
