Cubs manage just two hits in 4-0 loss to Brewers

CHICAGO _ The Cubs' hold on first place in the National League Central was short-lived as Chase Anderson and two relievers allowed two hits Tuesday night as the Brewers regained first place with a 4-0 win at Miller Park.

The Cubs were blanked for the fifth time this season. This marked the first time they were held to two hits since April 2 at Cincinnati.

Anderson allowed an infield hit to Willson Contreras in the second, and reliever Taylor Williams allowed a single to Addison Russell in the eighth.

Tyler Chatwood was victimized by a pair of two-run doubles in the first and third by Travis Shaw.

Chatwood allowed singles to Eric Thames and Christian Yelich to start the bottom of the first, and Shaw pulled a grounder past Anthony Rizzo down the first base line to give the Brewers an early lead.

Chatwood issued his first walk to Yelich to start the fourth. But a botched rundown involving the Cubs' infielders allowed Yelich to remain on second while Lorenzo Cain reached first safely. That set up Shaw's second two-run double.

Ben Zobrist started in left field in place of slumping Kyle Schwarber. Zobrist came off the bench Monday night to draw a walk and score the tying run in the eighth inning, and then hit a two-run single in the 11th inning of a 7-2 win that extended the Cubs' winning streak over the Brewers to seven games.

Schwarber grounded out to first as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and is hitless in his last 15 at-bats with six strikeouts.
