Cubs' bullpen appears set

March 31--MESA, Ariz. -- Manager Joe Maddon said Monday morning the Chicago Cubs' bullpen was looking "more firm," and it was looking all but settled after they selected the contract of left-handed reliever Phil Coke after an 8-5 win over San Francisco.

Coke, who was signed to a minor league contract less than four weeks ago, was added to the 40-man roster and will have his $2.25 million salary guaranteed.

Coke, 32, hasn't allowed a run in nine spring training appearances and struck out Gregor Blanco to end the sixth inning.

Coke likely will be the lone left-hander in the bullpen, joining closer Hector Rondon, Pedro Strop, Neil Ramirez, Justin Grimm and Jason Motte. Edwin Jackson could pitch in relief when he's not sharing the fifth spot in the rotation with left-hander Travis Wood.

Meanwhile, Maddon wasn't worried about Motte, who lowered his ERA to 12.27 by pitching a perfect seventh inning.

After experiencing a dip in velocity, Ramirez hasn't allowed a run in his past two appearances.

"We're pretty physical," Maddon said.

One of the first relievers who could be called up soon (if he's demoted) is left-hander Zac Rosscup, who has options but struck out the side in the ninth inning Monday. Rosscup has 12 strikeouts in nine innings.

With the addition of Coke, the Cubs' 40-man roster is full.
