Cubs' bullpen allows 6 runs in 11-10 loss to Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas _ The Cubs have collected 17 hits _ 13 singles _ but the struggles of their bullpen resurfaced Sunday in an 11-10 loss to the Rangers at Globe Life Park.

The relievers allowed six runs, including a leadoff double to start the ninth by Joey Gallo off Pedro Strop. Gallo advanced to third on a grounder and scored on a wild pitch.

Daniel Descalso hit a double to fuel a four-run sixth inning that allowed the Cubs to rally from a 5-4 deficit. Ben Zobrist, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez each hit singles off starter Lance Lynn and Jesse Chavez.

The Cubs overcame a grand slam by Delino DeShields off starter Cole Hamels in the fourth that gave the Rangers a 5-4 lead.

Hamels, facing the Rangers for the first time since he was traded to the Cubs on July 27, was charged with five runs on six hits in five innings.

Kyle Schwarber smacked his second home run in the second off Lynn.

Tyler Chatwood, making his 2019 debut as a reliever, threw nine of 10 pitches for strikes in the sixth but allowed a home run with two out to Jeff Mathis.
