CHICAGO _ Albert Almora Jr. and Javier Baez have provided the Cubs with much-welcomed energy during their recent spurt, and their efforts have been supplemented Monday night by contributions from Kris Bryant and Luke Farrell.
Bryant hit a triple off the wall in left field to open the sixth inning and scored on a grounder by Anthony Rizzo enabled the Cubs to seize a 3-2 win over the Rockies and extend their winning streak to five games.
Farrell, in relief of Jon Lester, induced Ian Desmond to ground into a force play with the go-ahead runner at second base to end the top of the sixth.
Farrell also pitched a perfect seventh, striking out Trevor Story on a 94-mph fastball.
Addison Russell hit a single with one out in the second to score Ben Zobrist in the second. Russell has two RBIs in as many games after not driving in a run since April 6.
Cubs starter Jon Lester was victimized by errors from second baseman Javier Baez and Bryant at third that raised his pitch count to 106 and caused him to be pulled with two out in the sixth.
Lester also threw inside to Charlie Blackmon in the first. Home plate umpire Jeff Nelson ruled that the pitch grazed Blackmon before warning both benches.
The Cubs requested a replay, but the call stood after a review.
This was the first game between the Cubs and Rockies since Bryant was beaned by a pitch from German Marquez on April 22.
