Cubs announce 2021 spring training schedule

The Cubs and Major League Baseball announced their tentative 2021 spring training schedule on Wednesday. The Cubs are scheduled to open the spring season at Sloan Park on Feb. 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The team’s schedule also features four matchups against the in-town rival White Sox, including the spring training finale against the White Sox at Sloan Park on March 30.

The Cubs will travel to Chicago to open the 2021 regular season at Wrigley Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 1.

The 2020 spring training season was canceled by Major League Baseball on March 12 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The regular season was delayed to July 19 and trimmed to just 60 games instead of the full 162 game season. MLB also expanded the playoff field to 16 teams instead of the usual 10 teams, and added the designated hitter rule to the National League.
