Cubs and White Sox to honor Ernie Banks and Minnie Minoso

July 07--The Cubs and White Sox will honor Ernie Banks and Minnie Minoso when they face each other for the City Series, the teams announced Monday.

On Sunday, the entire Cubs team will wear No. 14 throwback uniforms from 1958 in honor of Banks. The White Sox will wear uniforms from the same era.

Then on Aug. 14, the White Sox will wear throwback uniforms with Minnie Minoso's retired No. 9 from the 1950s, while the Cubs will wear throwback uniforms from the same era.

Banks died this past winter on Jan. 23. Minoso died five weeks later on March 1.

"Chicago baseball fans suffered two incredible losses this winter when legends Ernie Banks and Minnie Minoso passed away," Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney said in a statement. "We're honored to partner with the White Sox and recognize two of the greatest baseball players to ever represent this city during our upcoming Crosstown Cup Series."

"Minnie was a legend who will be remembered for his contributions on the field as well as off the field," said White Sox Senior VP of Sales and Marketing Brooks Boyer said in a statement. "These baseball icons left their mark on Chicago baseball, and our annual series is the perfect time to remember what they mean to all baseball fans in Chicago."
