The White Sox aren’t the only baseball team in town making moves.
The Cubs on Saturday traded for pitching depth, acquiring right-hander Jharel Cotton from the Athletics for cash.
Cotton, 27, missed all of 2018 because of an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. And after starting a rehab assignment in May, he suffered a hamstring injury that required debridement surgery. He returned in July and made 14 appearances, with increasingly better results as he finished the season.
Cotton, who was designated for assignment Wednesday, made 29 starts for the A’s in 2016-17, going 11-10 with a 4.95 ERA.
He was a 20th-round pick in 2012 by the Dodgers, who included him in the five-player Rich Hill trade four years later.
The Cubs still have three spots open on their 40-man roster.
