@CTA response to Twitter troll triggers viral applause

The person running the @CTA Twitter account clapped back at a troll Friday — and the digital audience loved it. | Sun-Times file photo

Whoever handles the CTA Twitter is receiving a collective and resounding pat on the back for their handling of a troll.

On Friday, a Twitter user sent the CTA a note via Twitter that read:

“I really do @Uber everywhere ... you will never catch me with the broke and impoverished on the @CTA especially the red line.”

The CTA responded:

An exchange between a Twitter troll and the CTA that sparked an outpour of support for the transit agency on social media.

“Self righteousness belongs to the narrow minded, the CTA belongs to everyone.”

The exchange drew the attention of other Twitter users and triggered an avalanche of support for the CTA.

Feeling the heat, the troll deleted the tweet. But screen shots of the original exchange have been fueling conversation over the weekend.

The CTA’s response has been retweeted more than 200 times, has been liked more than 1,000 and has drawn dozens of positive comments — the equivalent of a digital applause.

A spokesman for the CTA did not return a message seeking comment Sunday.
