CTA operator sent to hospital after Brown Line train hits car in Ravenswood

May 26--One person was taken to a hospital after a Brown Line CTA train hit a car that was on the tracks Thursday afternoon on the Northwest Side, according to officials.

About 2:35 p.m. a Loop-bound train that was leaving the Rockwell station, 4648 N. Rockwell St., hit a car that was on the tracks, said CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.

One person who was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition and three other people declined medical attention, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

Service was restored at 3:42 p.m. and though there are residual delays from the collision, those will be "ironed out'' in time for the evening rush hour by about 4:45 p.m., said Hosinski.

The operator of the train involved was the person taken to Swedish, said Hosinski, who added the injuries were minor.

There were 40 riders aboard at the time and the crossing gates were operational and in the lowered position at the time of the crash, said Hosinski.

Initially, power was removed in both directions and a bus shuttle was put in place for inbound and outbound passengers between the Kimball and Western stations, Hosinski said.

As a result, trains were temporarily operating only between the Loop and Western, but service was later restored but with delays, officials said.
