CSKA Moscow interested in Bristol City's Adam Nagy as central midfield reinforcement - report

Bristol City's Adam Nagy is a wanted man. Reports from Israel say that Russian side CSKA Moscow have him in their sights as they look for a holding midfifleder.

The Russian Premier League outfit are believed to have given up on their chase for defensive midfielder Neta Lavi, 24, who will not be released this winter by Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Haifa.

And that means that head coach Viktor Goncharenko will instead turn his attentions to Bristol City's Adam Nagy and Viktoria Plzen's Lukas Kalvach, as the team in second place in the Russian top tier looks to recruit in this transfer window.

Nagy has impressed of late at Ashton Gate and with his country, recently helping Hungary to qualify for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament taking place next June.

The Magyars are due to face Portugal, France and Germany in the summer, and Nagy's good form for club and country may have attracted admirers for a player who did not start the campaign in Dean Holden's first XI plans.

Whether the Robins would be willing to let another midfielder leave Ashton Gate following the early termination of Chris Brunt's one-year contract remains to be seen.

And given that the Robins have some 10 senior first-team injuries then the offer from the Russian giants to complete any deal would likely have to be big enough to persuade City to sell and afford to buy a replacement.

Currently the only senior midfield options are Nagy, Han-Noah Massengo and Tyreeq Bakinson, though Jamie Paterson and Liam Walsh may not be too much further away, and Kasey Palmer is expected to be recalled from Swansea City later this week.

The feather in the cap for the Red-Blues though, is that CSKA Moscow have previous experience of dealing with City: they recruited Hordur Magnusson in the summer of 2018 and will have an established line of contact with the Robins hierarchy.

As to 25-year-old Nagy, a move to play in the Russian Premier League and possible European football next season - CSKA were ousted from the Europa League group stage this campaign - may appeal.

Bristol City have recalled several players of late to alleviate their injury crisis. Head coach Holden says that the club are 'open-minded' on the January transfer window - on both incomings and outgoings.

Nagy has made 13 Championship starts and scored one goal this season.
