NEW DELHI: The thrilling IPL final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings was interrupted by a passing shower during the second innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The rain delay came after Gujarat Titans posted a formidable total of 214/4, setting Chennai Super Kings a challenging target of 215 runs.
As the chase began, Chennai Super Kings had made a cautious start, reaching 4/0 in 0.3 overs before rain forced a temporary halt to the proceedings. The delay was caused by a passing shower and the subsequent need to cover the pitch with multiple layers of sheets.
B Sai Sudharsan played a blistering innings of 96 runs off 47 balls for Gujarat Titans, falling just short of his maiden IPL century. Sudharsan's impressive knock, along with contributions from Shubman Gill (39), Wriddhiman Saha (54), and Hardik Pandya (21 not out), propelled his team to a daunting total.
As the mid-innings show concluded, the ground staff swiftly moved to cover the pitch. However, play resumed shortly thereafter as the rain subsided to a drizzle. Unfortunately, just three balls into the second innings, the heavens opened up again.
The rain interruption left the fans in a test of patience, with many getting drenched while remaining seated during the heavy downpour that lasted for approximately 10 minutes.
The match officials and ground staff are closely monitoring the weather conditions and will resume play as soon as the rain subsides and the ground is fit for play.
Cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the resumption of the game to witness the thrilling chase unfold between two formidable teams competing for the coveted IPL title.
