‘CSI: Vegas’ booked at CBS with William Petersen, Jorja Fox returning

“CSI” is coming back to CBS.

A sequel series, “CSI: Vegas,” has been picked up for the 2021-22 season, the network announced Wednesday.

“Facing an existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a brilliant new team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City,” a description of the show reads.

Original “CSI” stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox will reprise their roles as Gil and Sara, respectively, joined by a new cast including Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mel Rodriguez and Mandeep Dhillon.

Wallace Langham will also return to the series as lab tech David Hodges.

“Twenty-one years ago, we launched ‘CSI’ and watched in awe as this new cinematic series launched an entire genre and became a groundbreaking juggernaut that still has global resonance today,” CBS President Kelly Kahl said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of forensic criminalists to the ‘CSI’ brand and unite them with the legendary characters from the past who we still love, including the extraordinary Billy Petersen and Jorja Fox. Crimefighting technology has advanced dramatically over the last several years and combined with classic ‘CSI’ storytelling, we can’t wait to watch this new team do what they do best: follow the evidence.”

The original “CSI” ran from 2000 to 2015 and starred Petersen, Fox, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Ted Danson, Laurence Fishburne and Elisabeth Shue. Three other spinoffs also aired: “CSI: Miami” with David Caruso and Emily Procter, “CSI: NY” with Gary Sinise, Melina Kanakaredes and Sela Ward and “CSI: Cyber” with Danson and Patricia Arquette.
