CSD seizes luxury cars with bogus papers

Crime Suppression Division chief Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej talks during a briefing on the seizure of imported luxury vehicles with forged registration numbers and papers at the CSD's head office in Bangkok yesterday. Varuth Hiranyatheb

The Crime Suppression Division has seized 10 luxury cars worth about 120 million baht in the central and eastern regions which were imported with forged documents.

Some of the seized vehicles also had registration plates that were taken from crashed vehicles, said CSD chief Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej at CSD's headquarters yesterday.

Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop said the cars were brought into Thailand using faked customs declarations that undervalued the price of the cars.

"Some of the vehicles were being sold at 23 million baht each," he said.

The seizure followed a probe that the CSD launched after it received numerous reports from people who noticed licence plates from their wrecked vehicles on the bumpers of brand new cars.

The CSD is also investigating several advertisements for used luxury cars with unusually low prices, said Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop.
