UFC light heavyweight John Allan’s first octagon win could be overturned following a positive drug test.
Allan, 26, was positive for tamoxifen following July’s UFC on ESPN+ 13 and faces several punishments, including fines, a suspension and the reversal of a decision win over Mike Rodriguez.
Andy Foster, who regulated the event for the California State Athletic Commission, didn’t say whether Allan (14-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is contesting the commission’s findings. MMAFighting.com originally reported the fighter’s positive test.
Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator, or SERM, that is included in the class of hormone and metabolic modulators by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that are banned at all times. SERMs often lessen undesired effects of steroid use.
Allan could face a concurrent punishment from UFC anti-doping partner U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. A request for comment was not immediately returned.
A veteran of Dana White’s Contender Series, Allan entered the UFC with a 13-5 record and a recent win on the international circuit.
Previous first-time PED offenders have faced a one-year suspension and $2,500 fine from the CSAC, but Foster said he hasn’t decided the punishment to be levied.
