Valve has rolled out a fresh CS2 update, featuring new weapon animations and several key map changes, along with notable gameplay and audio adjustments.
As the game transitions to a more advanced animation system, players can expect smoother visuals and more immersive mechanics moving forward.
Here’s a breakdown of the CS2 patch notes released on July 28.
CS2 update today (July 28)
First-person animation overhaul using AnimGraph2
The biggest highlight of the update is the ongoing migration of CS2’s animation system to AnimGraph2. This shift involves a complete reauthoring of existing content.
In this patch, AnimGraph2 introduces fully overhauled first-person animations, covering everything from weapon deploy to firing, reloading, and inspection. Even the chickens haven’t been left out, with their animations also receiving an upgrade. These changes mark a foundational step toward modernizing the game’s visual feel, all while leaving core gameplay mechanics untouched.
Crucial map changes
Inferno, Overpass, and Train—maps included in the competitive pool—got some pretty meaningful updates in this patch.
Inferno saw the biggest overhaul, as Valve reworked the path from Church to Coffins and opened up the windows inside Church that face the B site, giving CTs better tools for retakes. There are also several other tweaks across the map, including an extended balcony railing on A site, offering more cover and movement options.

Overpass saw some updates, especially around the A site. The developers tweaked a few key angles and adjusted the Heaven railing, which could impact how players approach both attacking and defending the site.
Train also received a series of CT-friendly changes, with new cover spots added in Yard, near Z on the B site, and inside Upper B Halls. These additions give defenders more flexibility when holding or retaking bombsites.
Lastly, Dogtown was brought up to speed with its latest Community Workshop version, ensuring it’s in line with recent community improvements.
Gameplay enhancements, audio upgrades

This update brings several gameplay improvements aimed at tightening the overall responsiveness of CS2. Damage prediction while moving and shooting has been refined, which should lead to more consistent combat outcomes, especially during fast-paced encounters.
Shotgun mechanics have also been adjusted: reloads will no longer resume automatically if interrupted. Additionally, Valve fixed multiple instances where players could get stuck on map geometry while surfing, a welcome quality-of-life improvement for fans of surf maps.
The devs also rolled out a range of audio tweaks to complement the new animation system. A longstanding bug affecting individual player voice volume adjustments has been resolved, giving players more control over in-game communication levels.
