CS2 Season 5 update patch notes: Cache added to Premier, C4 damage reworked, new Armory collection

Counter-Strike 2‘s Premier Season Five has officially launched, bringing Cache back into the Active Duty map pool. Alongside the legendary map, the update also includes a complete overhaul of how bomb explosion damage works in CS2, and a fresh wave of community maps and Armory collections.

Cache replaces Overpass in Active Duty rotation for Premier Season 5

Following the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, Valve had confirmed the headline change of this update, bringing Cache in to replace Overpass in the Active Duty map pool. The community-favorite map was introduced into the game earlier in the year, giving players plenty of time to practice it in casual and competitive modes. Now, they can apply their knowledge to get their ratings up in Premier.

Bomb Damage overhaul brings shockwave mechanic and health prediction

The biggest gameplay change this season is a complete rework of how C4 explosion damage is calculated. Rather than applying damage instantly across the map, the explosion now propagates as a shockwave that flows outward from the bomb site. As the shockwave reaches the player, the damage is applied, allowing players to evade a bit more of the damage as they run away.

Key details of the rework include:

  • Damage values are precomputed through simulation, and baked directly into each map
  • The shockwave expands rapidly from the center of the blast instead of applying all at once
  • The wave dissipates around corners and does not travel through walls, giving players at a distance a chance to survive
  • Players can check their health bar for a flash preview showing how they’d fare if the bomb went off

That final point is by far the most important. Historically, players have relied on their own game knowledge to know whether they will survive the C4 explosion. But even at the highest echelons of professional play, players sometimes get the calculation wrong, costing themselves and their teams dearly. Now, players can simply glance down at their health bar and confirm whether their saved AWP will actually make it to the next round.

Arabesque and Spy Tech collections join the CS2 Armory

In 2025, Valve released a public Call to Arm-ory announcement, calling on skin designers to create particular designs for upcoming collections. Those collections have finally been revealed with the Season 5 Premier update, in the form of the Arabesque and Spy Tech collections.

The Arabesque collection invokes images of royalty, with heavy use of intricate designs, and brilliant Gold textures. Meanwhile the Spy Tech collection takes a different approach, with modern-lines of technological designs. Alongside the two, the Armory is also receiving two sticker collections, Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing.

Rotating out of the Armory this season are the Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections, along with the Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections.

Five new community maps added to CS2

Like previous seasons, Season 5 brings a new set of community-created maps into rotation:

  • Boulder (Competitive/Casual/Deathmatch)
  • Fachwerk (Competitive/Casual/Deathmatch)
  • Shelter (Competitive/Casual/Deathmatch)
  • Debris (Wingman)
  • El Dorado (Wingman)

These replace Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum, which have been removed from all game modes.

A whole host of minor changes and updates in CS2 Season 5 update patch notes

Beyond the headline changes, Valve made a handful of smaller improvements this update. Most notably, the game’s performance while the Scoreboard (Tab) is up has been improved, helping SoloQ players check their KD more regularly. The game also gets a number of visual bugfixes, and clipping changes across all maps.

Valve also confirmed the engine has been updated to the latest version of Source 2, though specifics on what that entails for performance or visuals were not detailed in today’s notes.
