Crystal Palace youngster Ryan Inniss banned for five matches for biting West Ham U23s player

Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss has been banned for five matches by the FA after admitting a charge of violent conduct having been accused of biting a West Ham U23 player while on loan with Newport County.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Welsh side on a season-long deal, was sent off in the final minutes of Newport's EFL Trophy defeat to the Hammers and has seen his ban extended by two games, though escaped the 10 match ban handed to Luis Suarez for biting Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.

Inniss will now miss Newport's matches against Northampton, Macclesfield, Exeter, Swindon and Carlisle.

An FA statement read: "Ryan Inniss has admitted a breach of FA Rule E3 (1) and been immediately suspended for his next five first team competitive matches by an independent Regulatory Commission.

"The Newport County defender was dismissed during an EFL Trophy match against West Ham United U21s on 4 September 2019 for violent conduct.

"However, The FA alleged that the standard three-match ban which would normally apply was clearly insufficient."

Speaking after the match last month, County boss Michael Flynn said: "Their player said he got bitten, so I'll have a look at that and find out what happened.

"If [Inniss] has, it's inexcusable and I won't be fighting his corner."
