Crystal Palace vs Colchester: Prediction, tickets, live stream, TV channel, team news - Carabao Cup 2019-20 preview

Crystal Palace vs Colchester United
Carabao Cup 2019-20, second round
Venue: Selhurst Park
Date: Tuesday, August 27, 2019
Kick-off time: 7:45pm BST

Crystal Palace will look to avoid a sizeable upset when they host fourth-tier Colchester United in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Roy Hodgson's men approach the contest at Selhurst Park with renewed confidence after Patrick van Aanholt's late goal at the weekend secured a first victory over Manchester United in the Premier League era.

It was the perfect tonic for Palace, who had yet to score a goal this season before their trip to Old Trafford, with an opening day stalemate against Everton followed by a 1-0 defeat by newly-promoted Sheffield United.

Opponents Colchester also claimed a much-needed first league win of the season on Saturday, with Luke Norris' second-half penalty sinking Northampton Town.

John McGreal's 17th-place side had drawn two and lost two of their opening four matches in League Two, though did claim a first Carabao Cup victory since 2010 earlier this month, with goals from Tom Eastman, Courtney Senior and Brandon Comley sealing an impressive 3-0 win over Swindon Town.

Team news

Hodgson seems likely to make sweeping changes to the side that toppled Manchester United, though centre-backs Mamadou Sakho (knee) and James Tomkins (groin) remain sidelined.

Summer signings James McCarthy and Victor Camarasa could both make their first starts in midfield, while Connor Wickham is expected to lead the line.

Back-up goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will also hope to be involved from the outset and a number of Palace's talented youngsters may make the matchday squad.

As for Colchester, left-back Cohen Bramall - released by Arsenal over the summer - is back from a three-match suspension handed down after his red card against Swindon.

Striker Paris Cowan-Hall is also pushing to start after an Achilles issue.

Probable Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey; Ward, Woods, Dann, Van Aanholt, Riedewald, McCarthy, Meyer, Townsend, Camarasa, Wickham

Prediction: Crystal Palace 3-0 Colchester

Although the line-up on Tuesday will look much different to the one that started at Old Trafford, that win over United has given Palace a real lift after another slow start to the campaign.

Colchester have largely flattered to deceive during the opening weeks of 2019/20 and a cup upset of this level looks beyond them just at the moment.

It is hard to foresee anything other than a comfortable home win as several of Palace's second-string and younger players look to prove their worth.
