Crystal Palace to avoid the penalty squabbles of Chelsea & Liverpool amid Luka Milivojevic ban

Roy Hodgson will be without his primary penalty taker against West Ham, but his squad will be left under no illusion whose duty it is when they set out onto the field at the London Stadium.

Luka Milivojevic misses the clash after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves, leaving the Eagles without their captain and sharp-shooter from the spot.

The Serbian has scored 20 times from the spot and scored his last 11 consecutive efforts.

Premier League sides have seen some on-field arguments over whose responsibility it is from 12 yards, with Ross Barkley, grabbing the ball, when Jorginho and Willian wanted to take a penalty for Chelsea against Valencia, while Mohamed Salah was left unhappy when James Milner claimed the ball from him against Cardiff last season.

In both instances the club's primary penalty claimed the kick, but Barkley has since been usurped from his duties by Jorginho.

Hodgson is adamant his players know whose responsibility it will be and that there will be no such confusion on the field against the Hammers if the situation arises.

He said: "Yes. They always have been, we haven't had that problem. It is important, not just with penalties but with all aspects of set plays.

"We have a fairly clear idea in our mind what the job should be, what it should look like, I just think that is part and parcel of preparing a match.

"Players need to know when there is a free-kick for or against in the these positions, what does the team expect of them, what is their role. There won't be any doubt about that, the penalty taker will be assigned before the game and often we have a sub penalty taker in case of course the guy gets injured. We never leave to just whoever fancies it takes it.

"We have had one incident when the ball was taken wrongly by a player from our designated penalty taker, it was dealt with at the time and I don't envisage it happening again."
