Crystal Palace to appoint Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira as new manager after talks with Swansea City boss Steve Cooper

Crystal Palace are reportedly set to appoint Patrick Vieira as their new manager.

According to The Athletic, a deal as been reached in principle to take the Frenchman to Selhurst Park in a move that will end weeks of speculation.

The move could even be rubberstamped today, with Vieira on course to oversee the first day of pre-season training on Monday.

Vieira, whose last coaching role was with OGC Nice whom he left back in December, was reportedly one of Palace's preferred candidates, alongside Sean Dyche and Valerien Ismael.

It's understood Swansea City boss Steve Cooper was also heavily considered after holding talks with the Eagles.

Indeed, one source has suggested the Swans boss was alongside Frank Lampard as one of the final two candidates under consideration.

However, the sudden availability of Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly helped cool the Eagles' interest in Cooper, while a move for Lucien Favre was also considered, with neither approach bearing fruit.

But while they may not be moving for Cooper, there remains a great deal of uncertainty around the Swans boss, with Fulham still holding a strong interest.

The Cottagers confirmed the departure of Scott Parker on Monday night, with Bournemouth later confirming the 40-year-old as their new boss just hours later.

Cooper is seemingly high on the list of contenders to replace Parker in West London, although Fulham are, at the time of writing, yet to firm up their interest with a formal approach.
