Crystal Palace team news: Jean-Philippe Mateta on bench as Michy Batshuayi and Jordan Ayew start

Jean-Philippe Mateta is on the bench for Crystal Palace as Michy Batshuayi and Jordan Ayew are drafted into the team to face Wolves.

Roy Hodgson has rung the changes after the midweek defeat to West Ham. Vicente Guaita starts in goal, as expected, while Nathaniel Clyne is in at right-back. Scott Dann comes into the centre of defence alongside Cheikhou Kouyate in place of Gary Cahill, who is on the bench, and Tyrick Mitchell is replaced at left-back by Patrick van Aanholt.

In midfield, Jordan Ayew is in for Andros Townsend on the right flank, while James McCarthy comes in for James McArthur in the centre. Eberechi Eze and Luka Milivojevic continue from the West Ham defeat.

And Batshuayi partners Wilfried Zaha in attack, with Mateta on the bench alongside the likes of Christian Benteke and Townsend.

Hodgson revealed in his pre-match press conference that there were no new injury worries for him, though James Tomkins had suffered a "rather serious" incident that had caused him an eye problem requiring three trips to see a specialist.

"Nothing in particular, luckily," Hodgson said when asked about injury worries. "It's the usual suspects really that we've been missing for a while that are still out. But otherwise we're not looking too bad.

"Well [Tomkins] is seeing a specialist again today - he's seen a specialist twice and he's seeing him again for the third time because of course the eye needs to settle down a bit before they can make the judgements that are necessary.

"But I'm hoping when I speak to him later on this afternoon that it will be positive, certainly a lot more positive than the last time I spoke to him.

"But unfortunately, we're still going to have to pass on his services for a bit longer because it was quite a serious incident which caused him the eye injury."

Hodgson also said that he would make a decision on whether Mateta would be in the starting XI for the game, but admitted the striker would be in the squad.

"He's in the squad - so I would think there's a good chance [of us seeing Mateta]," Hodgson said.

"But I'm not prepared to say at the moment whether he's starting. That will have to be a surprise one way or the other."

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Clyne, Kouyate, Dann, Van Aanholt; Ayew, Milivojevic, McCarthy, Eze; Zaha, Batshuayi.

Subs: Butland, Ward, Mitchell, Cahill, Kelly, Riedewald, Townsend, Benteke, Mateta.

Wolves XI: Patricio; Boly, Coady, Kilman; Hoever, Moutinho, Dendoncker, Semedo; Podence, Willian Jose, Neto.

Subs: Ruddy, Neves, Silva, Gibbs-White, Vitinha, Traore, Otasowie, Lonwijk, Bueno.
