Crystal Palace team news confirmed as Wilfried Zaha out of squad, Gary Cahill returns

Crystal Palace are without Wilfried Zaha for the Premier League clash against Manchester City, with Roy Hodgson only naming seven substitutes for the trip north.

Vicente Guaita starts in goal for Palace, with Joel Ward at right-back and Gary Cahill coming back into the team alongside James Tomkins in the heart of defence. Tyrick Mitchell continues on the left flank.

In midfield, it looks as if Palace will line up with a central trio of Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur and James McCarthy, while Andros Townsend and Eberechi Eze take up wide positions.

And Jordan Ayew starts as the lone striker for Palace, with Christian Benteke dropping to the bench.

Hodgson's decision to name only seven substitutes for the game against Pep Guardiola's side hints at potential problems for the club on the injury front, following so close to the game against Arsenal on Thursday night.

Hodgson stated following the Arsenal game that the only real injury miss for the game were likely to be Mamadou Sakho following the thigh problem picked up against Wolves, though the extent of the problem was still unknown on Thursday night.

Apart from that, Jeffrey Schlupp remains on the sidelines and will continue to do so for some time after suffering a hamstring injury against Sheffield United at the beginning of the month, while Wayne Hennessey, Connor Wickham and Nathan Ferguson all remain long-term absentees.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Ward, Tomkins, Cahill, Mitchell; Milivojevic, McArthur, McCarthy; Townsend, Ayew, Eze.

Subs: Butland, Van Aanholt, Dann, Clyne, Benteke, Batshuayi, Riedewald.

Manchester City XI: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Zinchenko; Gundogan, De Bruyne, Fernandinho; Silva, Jesus, Sterling.

Subs: Steffen, Rodrigo, Torres, Mendy, Mahrez, Cancelo, Foden, Delap, Doyle.
